Well ranked online MBA program

The online MBA program at the University of Utah is ranked well in independent surveys. For example, US News and World Report ranks it #42 in online MBA programs. Also, The Princeton Review currently ranks the program as #13 in the world.

Online MBA program is accredited by the AACSB

The University of Utah David Eccles School of Business stated in 2015 that it had maintained its accreditation for all of its business and accounting programs from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, or AACSB.

AACSB accreditation is the gold standard around the world in business and accounting education. It has been earned by less than 5% of all of the thousands of business programs across the world. The AACSB is known as the most prestigious and most long standing form of business accreditation. There are currently 727 business schools in 48 countries that are accredited by the AACSB.

It takes a high level of educational excellence and commitment to receive and maintain AACSB accreditation; it reportedly takes at least two years to receive accreditation. Also, all deans, faculty and staff must commit to constant, ongoing improvement to ensure that the business school will continue to deliver the best quality education.

Many online MBA graduates promoted

The University of Utah website reports that 42% of graduates from the online MBA program receive a promotion. It does not state what type of promotions nor how long it took for graduates to receive their promotions.

The program also reports that 30% of graduates report that they received a salary increase.

80 months average work experience for MBA students

An underrated but important factor in the quality of online MBA programs is how experienced the students are in the program. One of the most important learning experiences in MBA school is what you learn from other students.

Students who have many years of related business work experience are often great sources of learning and networking. Some universities put a stronger emphasis on work experience in the applicants accepted into their MBA program.

At the University of Utah, US News and World Report states that the average work experience for new MBA students is 80 months, or more than six years. Some MBA programs have students in their program with less than three years of work experience.

Flexible, on demand MBA classes

Many online MBA students choose distance learning because they have busy lives. Between working full time and taking care of family, many business professionals lack the time to take an on campus MBA program.

The University of Utah understands that most of its students are still working full time. It is for that reason that all of its MBA classes are available on demand, 24/7, accessible from any PC or mobile device with an adequate Internet connection.

The on demand lectures also feature in depth discussions in many cases with faculty and students via Web conferencing technology.

Some online MBA programs have set class times where all attendees must attend at certain times. This can make attending an MBA program very challenging for some students.

GMAT/GRE test scores are required

The University of Utah still requires GMAT or GRE scores to be submitted for consideration for admission. US News states that the average GMAT score is 573; the average GRE score breakdown is 152 verbal, 153 quantitative.

More universities today are dropping standardized test score requirements as a criteria for admission. There is growing evidence that high test scores do not necessarily translate into MBA program success. These programs place greater emphasis upon undergraduate GPA, letters of recommendation and writing skills.

On campus orientation is required

At the beginning of the online MBA, all students are required to go to campus for a  three day residency. This mandatory residency will provide you with the chance to talk to your peers and professors and to also work in career workshops.

However, many students who are very busy with work and family life have a difficult time in some cases getting to campus for required residencies.

High MBA acceptance rate

US News and World Report states that the university admits 70% of those who apply (72 out of 106). Some experts maintain that a low acceptance rate in an MBA program is a better indication of its quality.

Average peer assessment score

US News has a Peer Assessment Score from 1-5 that indicates what other universities think of the MBA program. The rank for the University of Utah is only 3. This suggests that the program is not especially highly regarded by its peers.
