Arkansas Campus-Based Computer Science Degrees

The following list shows the number of campus-based colleges offer Computer Science degrees throughout Arkansas:

The University of Arkansas has several top computer science degree programs worthy of your consideration. First is the bachelor of science in computer engineering. This degree program at the undergraduate level has required courses in the software and hardware aspects of computer applications and design.

As most of today’s complex technology systems feature hardware and software elements, computer engineering students need to have the skills to design, build and test complex systems. The available bachelor of arts in computer science has most of the same requirements; the differences is that the structure of the program allows students to do a double major if they choose.

Required courses in the computer engineering program at the bachelor’s level are:

  • Introduction to Engineering
  • Introduction to Engineering II
  • Programming Foundations
  • Discrete Mathematics
  • Programming Foundations II
  • Computer Organization
  • Elementary Differential Equations
  • Programming Paradigms
  • Operating Systems

At the master’s level, you can earn a degree in either computer science or computer engineering. Applicants to the computer science master’s program should have a BS in computer science. Those applying to the computer engineering program should have a BS in computer engineering. The two MS degrees have similar requirements in the number of credit hours that are needed to graduate. The programs differ according to the advisory committee for the student. Each student’s advisory committee will approve classes that are necessary for your interests and program. Students who are in the computer engineering program may expect to take more classes with a hardware systems focus. Students in the computer science master’s program will take classes more about software and theory.

If you complete your BS degree in computer science or engineering at the University of Arkansas with a 3.5 or higher GPA, you can count up to six hours of graduate level coursework completed as a undergrad towards your graduate degree.
