Delaware Campus-Based Computer Science Degrees

The following list shows the number of campus-based colleges offer Computer Science degrees throughout Delaware:

The University of Delaware offers two computer science majors as well as an information systems major. Most computer science majors get their bachelor of science in computer science, which is a focused and technical degree. The bachelor of arts in computer science is more of a flexible liberal arts program that is a good fit for students who want to do a double or triple major. The BA also may be ideal for students who want to get a technical undergrad degree before getting a degree in medicine, law or business.

The curriculum for the BS stresses software development and computer theory with the idea that students will be able to learn how to use computers to solve real world problems. Computer science majors will develop excellent programming skills as well as a good foundation in the practice and theory of computer science and software engineering. All of the members of faculty have doctoral degrees in their discipline.

Research of the computer science faculty is broad reaching, and includes software engineering and testing, bioinformatics, theory and algorithms, computer algebra, and parallel computer systems. Upper level courses reflect these areas, too, as well as cover new topics about database management systems and Web technology.

Graduate level programs of interest include the master of science degree in computer science and the master of science in bioinformatics and computational biology.

Students also may earn a bachelor of science in information systems that combines business and IT subjects. It is made to satisfy growing demand for students with a good mix of technical and business training.

Students benefit from this program because of the diverse computer science interests of the faculty. There are a wide range of classes to choose from, depending upon your interests. Students are encouraged to be involved in computer science undergraduate research through funded research and independent studies.

Required courses at the master’s level are:

  • Elements of Theory of Computation
  • Logic in Computer Science
  • Algorithm Design and Analysis
  • Operating Systems
  • Compiler Construction
  • Computer Graphics
  • Artificial Intelligence
