Technology employment in Hawaii remained about the same in 2017, according to CompTIA, which is the top and largest technology association in the world. The technology sector is estimated to be responsible for 4% of the total economy in this state, which is home to more than 2000 technology businesses. It also is estimated that the state has 31,000 technology workers, and that ranks it #44 in the country in net technology employment. Technology workers make up 4% of the workforce in the state.

Hawaii also saw a 33% increase from 2016 to 2017 in the number of job listings related to emerging technologies, such as blockchain, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, augmented reality and smart cities. The best year over year job growth in technology occurred in packaged software, with a 7% increase in jobs.
