Forbes notes that business in the state is driven primarily by horse racing, bourbon companies, automobile manufacturing, tobacco and college basketball. Horseracing alone is a $4 billion industry in Kentucky. Also, the state has more than 500 auto related facilities and factories that employ 95,000 workers, including many who work in business specialties from finance to accounting to business analyst. Other positives for the state economy are that it produces the third-most cars of any US state, and became a right to work state in 2016.

US News and World Report notes that the state has ⅓ of the nation’s top food processing companies, such as Kellogg’s and Nestle SA. The University Kentucky’s Gatton College of Business and Economics offers an MBA program that can be completed for some students in only one year. It is a full time, accelerated program that is made for recent graduates or young professionals. It is only 51 credit hours but is more immersive than the two year MBA programs that are found at other universities.
