Employment in the technology sector in New York grew by more than 2% in 2017 and the industry contributed more than $9 billion to the economy of the state, according to CompTIA, which is one of the top technology industry associations in the world.

With more than 639,000 technology workers, New York now ranks #3 among all 50 states in net technology employment. The technology workforce makes up more than 6% of the workforce for New York. The technology and computer science sector is responsible for more than 7% of the total economy in the state, which has more than 24,000 technology businesses in operation.

Also, New York saw its innovation score rise to #3 in the country this year, up from #10 a year ago.

New York Campus-Based Computer Science Degrees

The following list shows the number of campus-based colleges offer Computer Science degrees throughout New York:

Students in the New York City area who want to earn a bachelor of science or a master of science degree in computer science may consider the program at the City College of New York. Computer science has been offered at the bachelor’s level at this university since 1968. It now has 22 full time faculty, and a sponsored research center that is called the Center for Algorithms and Interactive Scientific Software. Program enrollment at the bachelor’s level is around 300 students. There also are 100 students who are earning their bachelor’s degree in computer engineering.

City College was the first university in the city to offer a major in computer science and continues to be a major innovator in the state in this subject. Offerings today include the BS, MS and Ph.D. in computer science. The latter is offered in a partnership with the CUNY Graduate Center. Also offered is a bachelor of science in computer engineering that is offered via a partnership with the Department of Electrical Engineering.
