Employment in the technology sector for South Carolina expanded by 2520 jobs in 2017, and contributed nearly $11 billion to the state economy, according to CompTIA. South Carolina has 122,400 technology workers, which ranks it #27 in the country; it accounts for 5.4% of the workforce in the state.

The technology sector is growing because the state puts a premium on growing a diverse economy where all types of businesses can thrive, according to the governor in a recent press release. The tech sector in South Carolina is now responsible for 5.6% of the economy in the state, and there are more than 6500 technology businesses in operation in South Carolina.

The University of South Carolina offers several computer science related bachelor’s degrees that will put you in a strong position to obtain a high paying computer science job in the coming years. The Computer Science and Engineering Program in the College of Engineering and Computing offers a bachelor of science degree in computer science, a bachelor of science in computer engineering, and a bachelor of science in computer information systems.
