Texas Computer Science Demand

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that there are 353,000 workers employed in the computer and mathematical occupations in the state for a 1.8% job growth rate, and 29.725 workers per 1,000 jobs.

In 2017, the technology and computer science industry in Texas grew substantially in central and south Texas, but interestingly, job growth in the field has been especially strong in North Texas and Dallas.

The number of technology jobs that were added in the San Antonio market grew by 20% in the last two years, totalling 843 jobs, while Austin added 974. But Dallas companies hired nearly 3,000 new workers in computer science and technology.

Still, a major hub of technology and computer science jobs in Texas is Austin and Round Rock. This area is home to many big technology companies, including Apple, Dell and Samsung. It also has its own booming start up scene. This part of Texas ranks #9 in the country with 62 tech jobs per 1,000 employees.

Overall, there was a 2% increase in tech sector employment across the state from 2015 to 2016, for a total of 11,000 jobs added. The technology industry accounts for 7% of the state’s GDP.

CompTIA reported that Texas had 963,400 technology workers in 2017, and a net gain of 13,390 from 2016 to 2017, which ranked it #2 in the country.
