The MBA programs at West Virginia University are accredited by the AACSB. The AACSB is the most respected accreditation body in the world for business education programs. Work experience is not required for admission to MBA program

If you are a recent graduate with a bachelor’s degree, you may have difficulty finding an MBA program that will allow someone with limited experience to be admitted. Low faculty credentials and training score

One of the important ranking factors that US News and World Report notes is faculty credentials and training. This reflects the quality and qualifications of the MBA professors and instructors. The US News score for this area for West Virginia is 96, so this is a fairly low ranking.

However, the magazine ranks the faculty 83 out of 100 in terms of how well they are trained to specifically teach online MBA students. Teaching students online is obviously quite different from teaching in a classroom.

Low selectivity score by US News

Another important ranking factor by US News and World Report is the admissions selectivity for the program. Generally, the more selective the program is, the better quality the students. The admissions selectivity score for this MBA program is only 53 out of 100.

High cost of tuition

The tuition per credit hour for the online MBA is listed at $932 on the US News and World Report website. This means that the tuition cost for this MBA will likely be over $40,000, not including book and other costs. This is a fairly high tuition for an MBA program that has a rather average ranking at #47, according to US News.

Mandatory residencies are required for online MBA program

Each semester, West Virginia University requires online MBA students to report to the campus for three or four days, where they focus on experiential learning, networking with peers and business professionals. This is a valuable experience. But it can be challenging to do this every semester for busy business professionals. It also adds substantial cost to the bottom line.

You also have the option of taking a three credit hour MBA elective that takes you abroad to business centers in Guatemala, Brazil, China, India or South America.

Peer assessment score is low

US News and World Report measures the peer assessment score for every MBA program that it ranks. This measures how highly the MBA program is thought of by its peers in the MBA education field. WVU’s MBA program only receives a 2.7 out of 5. This is an average score that indicates that the MBA program is not highly regarded in the industry.
