Colorado Campus-Based Accounting Degrees

The following campus-based colleges offer Accounting degrees for Colorado students:

The University of Colorado, Boulder offers both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Accounting. These programs can be taken concurrently so the student has enough hours to qualify to sit for the CPA examination upon graduation.

The accounting coursework in both programs provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the concepts and theories that underlie the practice of accounting. Strong emphasis is placed on the developing, understanding and use of accounting information, as well as logical reasoning. These areas of focus allow students to solve complicated accounting problems and to effectively manage organizations and to make good accounting policy decisions.

Accounting students at the Leeds School of Business have two career options when they graduate. Those who want to have a career in public accounting can become CPAs. While this designation is not necessary if you are not going into public accounting, it still is an advantage to have it in any accounting career. In Colorado, it is required to have an undergraduate degree and 27 semester hours of accounting, including auditing, to take the CPA examination.

Accounting students who want to work in government, business or the nonprofit fields with an undergraduate degree in accounting are encouraged to take courses in finance, international business and information systems.

Students who graduate with a Master of Accounting or a Master of Taxation will take ten courses each, and can earn their BS and MS after five years. Placement for graduates in full time accounting employment is more than 90%.
