South Carolina Campus-Based Data Analytics Degrees

The following campus-based colleges offer data analytics degrees for South Carolina students:

The College of Charleston is now offering a Master of Data Science and Analytics that intends to meet the technology needs of the state’s growing data science needs. The program director stated in 2018 that it is the first such degree in the state, and the program will be teaching graduate students in data science skills that are in strong need in the local technology industry.

This program should be popular and a good fit for data science students in South Carolina because many employers in the state must go outside South Carolina to fill high-paying STEM jobs. It is believe there are 200 to 300 software and information technology jobs that universities and local colleges have been unable to fill with current educational offerings.

The new MS program will produce up to 30 graduates that are skilled in artificial intelligence, big data, software engineering, and programming, among others.

Program directors believe employers in South Carolina could be of three types. The first are startups that cannot afford to bring in the super specialized expert and wants to have a jack of all trades. Next, established companies are looking all over the state for qualified technology workers. Third, employers in fields that are slowly realizing that people with big data and AI skills can be very useful to them.
