Can you tell us about the MBA program offered at the College of Business at Eastern Oregon University?

The College of Business at Eastern Oregon University began offering an MBA program in 2005.   In 2015 we began offering the online option.  Eastern Oregon University offers courses during all four terms (quarters: Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring) throughout the year.  The program follows typical disciplinary areas in accordance with IACBE accreditation requirements and includes accounting, business administration, business ethics, business law, business-related quantitative methods, economics (principles of microeconomics and macroeconomics), finance, human resources, information management, international business, management, and marketing at the advanced level and with innovative and contemporary approaches.

How long does a typical MBA program take at Eastern Oregon University? What is the maximum and minimum time of completion?

The program requires completion of 45 quarter credits.  Classes are 3 credits each with a CORE of 30 credits and 15 credits available as elective options.  Three classes are offered each term so a student can complete the program in five terms or a maximum (one three credit class per term) of 15 terms (3.75 years).  Students can progress at a rate that is flexible and appropriate for them. Students who leave and return to their program may be subject to updated catalog requirements.

What do you think makes the Eastern Oregon University MBA program stand out from other business programs offered by similar schools?

The Eastern Oregon University MBA program is the lowest cost program available in our region.  There is a great deal of flexibility as to when and what modality students can choose (in addition to the online option there is a site based option).  Eastern Oregon University is recognized by prospective students and employers as a program that prepares students through innovative coursework and practical application consistent with an evidence based approach related to emerging industry concepts and practices.

How important would you say accreditation is when choosing an online business program?

Eastern Oregon University is accredited through the International Accreditation Council for Business Education (IACBE).

What are the advantages to earning a MBA degree in general and where are you seeing employer demand for this degree?

Being able to complete an MBA degree online affords students the freedom to continue their professional and personal life without disruption. They don’t have to relocate or attend class in person. Online programs give working professionals the opportunity to further their education without sacrificing personal obligations such as work and family. Working professionals often see a degree as a path to promotion. Current trends in business suggest an MBA degree as minimum qualification for many entry-level leadership positions.

Does Eastern Oregon University offer job placement for students who graduate with a MBA degree?

The College of Business doesn’t directly offer placement assistance. However, the University does have a fully-functioning career center. EOU Career Services works directly with business students to discover internships as well as part-time and full-time employment.

What type of financial aid packages are available for students in business? Are there any fellowships, grants and scholarships available?

Business students can qualify for various forms of financial aid, scholarships, and grants through the University and external parties.  MBA students must take at least 6 credits each term to qualify for partial financial aid and 9 credits to be considered a full-time student.

Do you have any advice for students enrolling in an MBA for the first time?

Before a student begins, they should assess their life and determine whether commitments to work, family or other pursuits will enable them to commit the time and energy required to pursue the MBA at Eastern Oregon University.  It might be wise to start slow (one or two classes) before trying to engage a full load of coursework.  Online education provides flexibility but it also requires that a student plan effectively to devote the time necessary for successful completion.

What do you enjoy most about your position at Eastern Oregon University?

All faculty embrace the opportunity to work closely with students in all stages of life. All the faculty make themselves accessible to students, respond quickly to assignments and questions, and sincerely care that students learn.  Our students range in age from traditional aged college students to retirement-age. They bring a wealth of life experiences that enhance class discussions and provide students with new perspectives on many of the discussion topics.
