Marketing coordinators are responsible for the creation of new marketing campaigns for the company. This includes making presentations, dealing with print, social media, mailing, or television advertisements, and more. Often, they have to brainstorm ideas in such a way that they align with the vision and mission of the company, and they have to come up with ways to execute this. They also often hold responsibility for the company’s website, while at the same time managing all other marketing staff in their efforts to create a positive brand image and introduce new products and services.

Other job duties of a marketing coordinator are:

  • To support the overall marketing department in its daily operations, including projects, promotions, and media campaigns
  • To coordinate and arrange mailings, projects, and special events
  • To research, develop, and report on new marketing data in order to ensure management can develop the appropriate marketing direction
  • To help to develop new materials used for presentations, reports, correspondence, and proposals

Marketing Coordinator Education Requirements

A bachelor’s degree is generally the minimum requirement for a marketing, coordinator, as is proven experience in sales, promotions, marketing, and/or advertising. It is generally expected that a marketing coordinator has also completed courses in areas such as statistics, mathematics, computer science, finance, economics, management, and business law. This ensures that they are able to stay abreast of modern technological developments and how these influence the way in which marketing efforts have to be delivered. Using social media and online forms of communication, for instance, is a key element of this.

Work experience is equally important, however. Most marketing coordinators come from a background in marketing, promotions, or advertising. They may also have been sales representatives, public relations specialist, purchasing agents, or buyers.
